Nailed It: Cloud nails

Welcome to Nailed It, where we get into how to do at-home manicures (whether they’re successful or not).

After the crystals from the French mani started falling off in the following days, I knew I wanted another challenge that was a little lower maintenance. Enter these cloud nails, which lasted perfectly for over a week (and would have lasted even longer if I reapplied top coat a few days into the mani). Surprisingly, this is probably one of the easiest works of nail art I’ve ever done. 10/10 would try again.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

HOW TO DO IT

  1. After cleaning, shaping and buffing your nails, paint a thin layer of your base coat.

  2. Paint two layers of your light blue polish, giving each layer a few minutes to dry in between coats.

  3. Once the blue is mostly dry, dip your flat-tipped nail art brush in your white polish and create a flat line to mark the bottom of each cloud, starting to move the brush in an upward motion and painting small shapes that resemble clouds using tiny strokes (you can also use a dotting tool to help create the puffs of your clouds).

  4. Repeat step three for each nail. Go back over with any additional white polish to add dimension or touch up any clouds.

  5. Dip your clean-up brush in nail polish remover and use it to touch up any areas around your nails with errant polish.

  6. Apply your top coat once all the clouds are complete.

  7. Let dry – then float off into a cloudy daydream ☁️
